Meridon Sibutramine 50tab 20mg/tab MEDICAL PHARMA

What Is Sibutramine?

Sibutramine is a medication that was previously prescribed for weight management. It works by influencing certain brain chemicals involved in appetite control and weight regulation.

It was commonly used alongside diet and exercise to treat obesity, particularly in individuals with related conditions such as diabetes, high cholesterol, or hypertension. However, it was withdrawn from the U.S. market in October 2010 due to safety concerns.

Important Safety Information

Sibutramine should not be used in combination with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), such as isocarboxazid, phenelzine, selegiline, or tranylcypromine, within 14 days, as this may lead to serious and potentially life-threatening reactions.

You should avoid sibutramine if you:

Have uncontrolled high blood pressure
Have eating disorders such as anorexia or bulimia
Have a history of heart disease, stroke, or coronary artery disease
Are taking other stimulant-based weight loss medications
Are allergic to the drug
Before Taking Sibutramine

Consult your healthcare provider if you have any of the following conditions, as adjustments or monitoring may be required:

Glaucoma
Hypertension
Liver or kidney disease
Depression
Hypothyroidism
Seizure disorders
Blood clotting issues
History of gallstones
Age under 16 or over 65

It is also important to inform your doctor about all medications you are taking, especially antidepressants, migraine treatments, cold or allergy medicines, and opioid painkillers.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Sibutramine is classified as pregnancy category C, meaning its safety during pregnancy is not fully established. It may also pass into breast milk, so medical advice is necessary before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

How to Take Sibutramine
Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor
Usually taken once daily, with or without food
Dosage may be adjusted based on response
Regular monitoring of blood pressure and heart rate is required

If weight loss of at least 4 pounds is not achieved within the first 4 weeks on a reduced-calorie diet, your doctor should be informed.

Treatment is generally not recommended for longer than two years.

Missed Dose and Overdose
Missed dose: Take it as soon as remembered unless it’s close to the next dose
